PROGRAM :

CHAPTER I — WELCOME TO THE BASQUE COUNTRY
Villages · E-Bike · Atlantic Ocean

Day 1 · Sunday, June 28
First Steps

Your adventure begins the moment you land. Our coordinator meets you at Biarritz airport and drives you by private transfer to the Maison Ithurria, your home for the next three nights — set in the heart of Ainhoa, one of France’s most beautiful villages. Crimson-shuttered farmhouses, cobblestone streets, the gentle warmth of a Basque evening, and a first dinner at the inn’s table to set the tone. Welcome to the Pyrenees.

Accommodation: Maison Ithurria **** — Ainhoa

Day 2 · Monday, June 29
The Basque Country by E-Bike

Your guide arrives this morning with the bikes — and a big smile. Off you go into the rolling hills and valleys of the Basque interior, discovering perched villages, sheep-grazed meadows and views that stop you in your tracks. E-bikes mean the whole family rides together, at their own pace, without ever struggling. A picnic along the way, stories and local lore from your guide throughout the day. The mountains are best earned — and savored.

Accommodation: Maison Ithurria**** — Ainhoa

Day 3 · Tuesday, June 30
The Bay, the Pirogue and the Pintxos

This morning, we head to the ocean. You set off from Saint-Jean-de-Luz in a traditional pirogue canoe or on stand up paddleboards, gliding along the bay past fishermen’s houses reflected in the clear water. Swimming, laughter, salt on the skin. In the evening, you cross the border into Hondarribia (Fontarrabie), a Spanish gem of colorful facades, where you’ll wander the old quarter hunting for the best pintxos bar. Back to Ainhoa in the late evening.

Accommodation: Maison Ithurria**** — Ainhoa

CHAPTER II — THE LIVING MOUNTAIN
Béarn · Shepherd · Bivouac

Day 4 · Wednesday, July 1
Staying with Cédric, the Shepherd

We leave the coast behind. On the way to Béarn, we stop in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port — a fortified Basque town nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees, an iconic stop on the Camino de Santiago. Vauban-designed ramparts, medieval streets, local craftsmen: a free hour to wander through living history.
Then we drive up to Cédric’s shepherd’s cabin at La Pierre Saint-Martin. He welcomes you like family: a walk to round up the herd, milking the ewes, the smell of a wood fire. In the evening, dinner around his table with his family. And the night? Under canvas, on the mountainside, with nothing to wake you but cowbells and the first light of dawn on the ridgeline. An experience your kids will talk about for years.

Accommodation: Bivouac — Cédric’s Shepherd Cabin, La Pierre Saint-Martin

Day 5 · Thursday, July 2
Hiking the GR10: La Pierre Saint-Martin to Lescun

Mountains at first light — it can’t be described, only experienced. After brekfast at the cabin, your mountain guide joins you for one of the GR10’s most spectacular stages. You set off from La Pierre Saint-Martin, a vast windswept limestone plateau where the jagged lapiaz karst creates a moonscape of raw, mineral beauty. Ancient hook pines — some shaped by centuries of snow and wind into extraordinary forms — dot this timeless landscape. In the distance, the near-perfect pyramid of Pic d’Anie (8,215 ft) watches over you: Himalayan in mood, Pyrenean in soul.

The trail then crosses the Arres de Camplong, a high summer pasture where vast herds of cattle, sheep and mares graze from June to September. The sound of bells carries across the silence. Pastoralism here isn’t a museum piece — it’s the living reality of these valleys, unbroken for centuries. From this plateau, the views plunge on one side into the Barétous valley, on the other into the Aspe valley: two radically different worlds, two kinds of beauty. The descent into Lescun is a moment unto itself.

At 2,950 feet, the village appears as if set against the mountain — slate roofs, stone houses, narrow streets dating to the 11th century. Around it opens the Cirque de Lescun, nicknamed the Dolomites of the Pyrenees: a vast natural amphitheater dominated by the Aiguilles d’Ansabère, the Billare and the Orgues de Camplong, whose limestone silhouettes rise from forest and pasture like a skyline carved into the sky. Quietly powerful, almost surreal.Check in at the Hôtel du Pic d’Anie, dinner and overnight. Tonight, Lescun’s sky — designated an International Dark Sky Reserve — puts on one final show before you sleep.

Accommodation: Pic d’Anie Guest House — Lescun

CHAPTER III — CIRCLING THE PIC DU MIDI D’OSSAU
High-altitude hiking · Béarn

Day 6 · Friday, July 3
Lac d’Ayous at Sunset

Transfer from Lescun to the trailhead for one of the Pyrenees’ iconic stages. The path climbs gently to the Ayous lakes, high-altitude mirrors that reflect a perfect double image of the Pic du Midi d’Ossau — this solitary volcanic peak, unmistakable in profile, the emblem of the Béarn Pyrenees. You settle into the mountain refuge for the night: a hearty dinner, the sun setting over the water, total silence. One of those evenings you carry with you forever.

Accommodation: Refuge d’Ayous — Ossau Valley

Day 7 · Saturday, July 4
Circling the Giant

Endless pastures, meadows in bloom, bells in the distance, pass after pass — and always that peak watching over you. Today you complete a full loop around the Pic du Midi d’Ossau, from Lac d’Ayous all the way to the Anéou cirque, through landscapes that keep getting wilder. You’ll pass shepherd’s cabins, spot isard chamois on rocky outcrops, and walk with the rare feeling of being truly inside the mountains — not just beside them.Mid-afternoon, your guide bids you farewell at the Anéou cirque, leaving you richer in stories and pleasantly worn out. A private transfer takes you over the Pyrenees into Spain. Destination: Boltaña and your hotel.

Accommodation: Monasterio de Boltaña**** — Aragón, Spain

CHAPTER IV — THE SPANISH CANYONS
Canyoning · Aínsa · Spain

Day 8 · Sunday, July 5
First Jump

The Spanish Pyrenees hide some of the most jaw-dropping scenery in Europe — and the canyons around Aínsa are among the very best. An approach hike through an arid, mineral landscape, then you drop in: natural slides in turquoise water, rope rappels, pools and cascades. Your guide takes you through one of Europe’s finest canyons, perfectly suited for the whole family — intense, exciting, and never beyond reach. A day of cold water and uncontrollable laughter.Accommodation: Monasterio de Boltaña — Aragón, SpainDay 9 · Monday, July 6The Canyon, Act IIOne day wasn’t enough? We didn’t think so either. Back into a different canyon around Aínsa — each site has its own character, its own water, its own personality. The family starts to read the current, master the rappels, let themselves go. This is what Pyrénéance does: we don’t just show you the mountains, we put you inside them.

CHAPTER V — GAVARNIE & THE PIC DU MIDI
Hautes-Pyrénées · UNESCO World Heritage

Day 10 · Tuesday, July 7
At the Top of the Stars

Back in France. This morning, you ride the cable car from La Mongie up to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre at 9,439 feet. A legendary scientific observatory, 5,000 sq ft of immersive exhibits, 360° panoramic terraces overlooking 185 miles of Pyrenean chain, and the story of the astronomers and researchers who have worked here for over a century. Lunch with a view, in a silence that makes your head spin.In the afternoon, you descend toward the Cirque de Gavarnie, a UNESCO World Heritage Site — a cathedral of limestone open to the sky. Check in at the Hôtellerie du Cirque. This evening, the cirque at dusk, for those who want to step away from the table.

Accommodation: Hôtellerie du Cirque**** — Gavarnie

Day 11 · Wednesday, July 8
Beneath the 10,000-Foot Walls

Your guide leads you deep into the cirque. Limestone cliffs rise straight up on all sides, and the Grande Cascade drops 1,385 feet — one of the tallest waterfalls in Europe. You walk with your head tilted back. Gavarnie has a way of putting things in perspective.

Accommodation: Hôtellerie du Cirque**** — Gavarnie

Day 12 · Thursday, July 9
Via Ferrata and the Road Back

One last shot of adrenaline before you leave the high country: a challenging via ferrata route just outside Gavarnie, with vertiginous views over the valley and a swinging rope bridge as the grand finale. Iron rungs, steel cables, fresh air — the 12 and 14-year-olds will take to it with that particular enthusiasm of people who haven’t yet learned to be afraid. Then the road winds down toward the foothills, a gastronomic lunch in the Gaves valley, and a late-afternoon arrival in Biarritz — at the legendary Hôtel du Palais, right on the Atlantic.

Accommodation: Hôtel du Palais***** — Biarritz

CHAPTER VI — BIARRITZ & THE ATLANTIC
Basque Coast · Free time · Farewell

Day 13 · Friday, July 10
Free on the Coast

A free day in the queen of Basque resort towns. The Rocher de la Vierge and its sweeping views over the ocean and the entire coastline. The old town lanes, the fishing harbor with its 66 colorful little cabins, the covered market where you linger over Basque cheeses, ham and local specialties. Or simply the Grande Plage, feet in the water, eyes on the Atlantic. And in the evening, sunset at the lighthouse.
